Furyborn Book Review

FURYBORN by Claire LeGrand Review by Malachi Westbrook

Furyborn is a Fantasy Fiction read following two powerful female leads centuries apart. This is book one of the Emperium Trilogy. I read this as a part of the Judge a Book Podcast book club. A prophecy foretells of two queens, a sun queen and a blood queen. One who will rise to save the world and one who will destroy it. I chose this book because I have heard incredible things about this series and knew it was a must read. I also quite enjoy the YA Fantasy genre and so this book has a similar feeling while reading though it does address adult themes and therefore is more so for an older audience. This book was done incredibly well in my opinion. It was page turning and I was engrossed in both story lines. The prologue of the book does a great job of intriguing you while also leaving you with many questions that you want answered. I will admit that the first three or so chapters left me a bit confused but after that I was obsessed. Furyborn keeps you guessing and trying to tie together all of these pieces and connect the two storylines. I am eager to continue to read this series as I hear each book is better than the last. My Likes: -There is a full cast of side characters that are just as if not more lovable than the main characters. I love Remy!! -The dueling story lines keep you hooked. -World building was done incredibly well. -It feels like the start of an incredible series. My Dislikes: - Many times I did not like Eliana as a main character and the choices she made but her story picks up and kept me interested. -A few aspects weren’t handled how I would have ideally liked but those will lead to spoilers, so I won’t list them here! Overall, I loved this book! I can see myself reread this book after finishing the series to see any clues I may have missed that lead to connections in the future. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who likes the fantasy genre, especially those who are familiar with the YA fantasy realm and are looking for adult books similar to that. I landed at a five-star rating because I found myself obsessed with this book and dying to know more about the characters and how the plot will unfold.
